Record Store Day has returned to Nottingham as vinyl collectors head to Rough Trade for limited releases, while local acts including Sunflower Thieves and Autumn Fires perform in-store.

Since 2008, Record Store Day has celebrated independent music stores, tempting in music fans with events and exclusive, limited-run records. Rough Trade on Broad Street said they expect "a busy day with unprecedented requirements".

Across the UK, it may feel like streamers like Spotify are swallowing up the music market, but physical media has also seen dramatic increases in sales. According to the BPI, Britain's chief music industry body, streaming revenues in 2025 rose by 4.6% on the previous year (up to £1.07 billion). Vinyl, on the other hand, saw an increase of 19.9% (up to £174.7 million). CDs also saw a 3% increase in sales.

Rough Trade Nottingham no longer sell CDs, instead dedicating their entire shop floor to vinyl, with some band merchandise and musician biographies.

Limited edition releases available tomorrow are: The Cure, Fleetwood Mac, Corinne Bailey Rae, Divorce, Dr Feelgood, James Dean Bradfield, Kaiser Chiefs, Mark Knopfler and Emmylou Harris, Primal Scream, Rory Gallagher, Sigrid & Bring Me The Horizon, The Streets and The Vaccines. These are generally re-releases with special artwork, rather than new music.

The store will open earlier than normal at 8am. There will be live music from local bands starting at 1pm.

1pm: Sunflower Thieves
2pm: Eponine
3pm: Autumn Fires
5pm: Melanie Baker
6pm: Solar Eyes

Fac1968, on St James' Street, will also be celebrating with live DJs throughout the day.
