This bank holiday weekend Nottingham is crawling with chainmail, archery, and tents as there are at least three Medieval themed events today and into the start of the week.

Closest to home is Nottingham Castle's Medieval Legends event which is running today from 10am until 5pm. It's also available on Sunday and Monday. They are also running a "quiet day" on Tuesday 26th for those who prefer smaller crowds. The grounds around the castle will be alive with entertainment from the Knights of Skirbeck Medieval Village. The day will have period-specific weapon demonstrations (11am), story telling with Robin Hood, crafts running throughout the afternoon, and archery until 3pm.

Entry to this event is with a standard castle ticket: £18 for adults with the ticket lasting for a full year. Under 16s get in free with an adult.

Nottingham Castle hosts MacBryde and Colquhoun exhibition
Over 100 works chart the rise and struggles of artists Robert MacBryde and Robert Colquhoun, whose success in 1940s London gave way to hardship shaped by war, poverty, and persecution, now explored in a new Nottingham Castle exhibition.

The Two Roberts exhibition is also available at the castle.

The same troupe, with a similar timetable, are also at next week Newstead Abbey. Although, they are only there Saturday and Sunday. For those children who love a good scavenger hunt, there is a "Medieval Detective Outdoor Trail" which tells the story of life as a monk. That sheet costs £2. Adult entry to the house is £18, with year-long access to the house. Though, some of the activities are outside and accessible without paying.

Finally, The Gathering of the North is amassing at Sherwood Forest. This may be the most action packed of the three events, touting axe throwing, archery, and jousts (12:30PM and 4:15PM). Many of the activities are focused around Major Oak, famous hiding place of Robin Hood. The final day of the experience will be Monday, open from 9:30AM until 5PM each day. The event is free to enter, with no ticket or pre-booking required, though visitors arriving by car will need to pay the special event parking charge of £15 (£12 for RSPB members). Some individual activities may also carry a separate cost.
