Green's Windmill Trust launches membership scheme
Green's Windmill Trust is inviting supporters to become members while repairs keep the Sneinton landmark closed, with benefits including AGM voting rights, tours and lectures.
Green's Windmill Trust are eager for interested people to become members of the Trust, helping fund the ongoing repairs and maintenance, but also allowing members to take part in the decision making. For £30 a year, members gain voting rights at the company's AGM, as well as other benefits.
The Trust has said there will be a members pack, invitations for out-of-hours tours, lectures open only to members, and a quarterly newsletter.
Like many not-for-profit and charitable organisations, running the mill, surrounding community garden, and science centre is increasingly expensive each year. This is especially the case as visitor numbers have been reduced whilst the mill itself is under repairs. The site is operating as normal, but access to the mill was closed in November 2025 for major repairs to the windmill. It's not expected to reopen until Easter 2027.
Green’s Windmill is a Grade II listed Sneinton landmark. It is linked to George Green, whose mathematical work is still used in modern science and engineering despite his seminal work being published in 1828. The windmill, science centre and garden are run by Green's Windmill Trust on behalf of Nottingham City Council.
The science centre showcases his work, which ultimately led to the invention of the MRI machine, an area of science that Nottingham continues to lead the way. His work is still being built on today: on Friday a new exhibit was launched there in collaboration with the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Nottingham. The exhibit turns the invisible idea of electric potential into a 3D landscape, showing how positive and negative charges move differently across the same peaks and valleys.
The interactive science centre and community garden are still open Wednesday to Sunday, 10am – 4pm. There's still no fee to enter.
