Debenhams building owner falls silent for over a year

Ill-advised to cycle today with 40mph gusts; an evening crafting with water colours; still no plan for Debenhams.

Debenhams building owner falls silent for over a year
The Debenhams building was built in 1888. Here it is in 2010. It now has considerably worsened. Picture from Wikipedia.

6 degrees high today, but climbing up from a 3 degrees night, so quite chilly. That'll feel much worse thanks to raining all morning - and a good amount of it too. That'll be joined by some fierce 40mph gusts. I will be getting the bus to work tomorrow, and no one will judge you for opting for that either.

Ugly Bread Bakery on Carlton Street don't just serve focaccia, pizza, and sandwiches - they also serve cosy crafting evenings. Tonight they are putting on a water colour on canvas evening, starting at 5:15, where you'll be well fed and spend the evening painting. Tickets are £22.95, which is decent considering you're getting a meal as well as a whole evening of joy.

In Market Square news, or lack of news really, a campaign has been started by the Nottingham Post and Nottingham Live publications to urge action from the management and owners of the old Debenhams building. It was purchased by Long Row Properties when the department store was still in full swing, but they were left hanging when Debenhams suddenly left. The owners were left with an old, grade two listed building, and no idea what to do with it. There seems to be no plan from the current owners, indeed no one has heard from them since December 2024. Check the Nottingham Post for further coverage.
