The Nottingham Arts Theatre is starting their run of Sondheim's darkest musical, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, performed by the NAT Youth Group.

The original runs of the play won award after award, including Tonys, Oliviers, and even a Grammy for best theatrical album in 2023. The story shows Sweeney's return to London, after years in exile in Australia, to find his England darker than the one he left. Consumed by a bloodlust for revenge against the person who sent him away, he gets quite carried away. Aided by a local pie maker, who has a cunning way of shifting the evidence. It's a dark but often times funny and heartfelt story that's best seen live.

The Youth Theatre has students from as young as eight years old to eighteen, covering drama, dance, and singing. They're also a gateway for young people to get behind the stage curtain too, helping develop skills for backstage and technical roles.

Their rendition of Sweeney Todd starts tonight and runs until Sunday, with five performances. There are still tickets available to many of the performances, and they come in under £20. As a bonus, Kayal, which is just down the road, offer 20% off food when booked in advance and you can show your tickets to the theatre.
