Unusually warm but windy; Nottingham Panthers take on Fife Flyers; Microsoft gives up on CDs.

Sunday, 11th January
Lets go Panthers!

In a surprise swing, temperatures will jump from -1 degrees right now to nine degrees before the end of the day. There maybe some rain after 5pm, but barely anything worth mentioning. The wind is the dampner on our mood though: 20mph winds going as high as 30mph sometimes, and gusts above 40mph in the evening.

Nottingham Panthers are playing the Fife Flyers today, with a 5pm faceoff (start time). You'll want to get there at least 40 minutes before the start of the match to soak in the full experience though: the warm up is also something worth watching to get into the spirit. Fife have had terrible luck so far in the League, but last night that seems to be on the change. They're not a team to underestimate.

In disappointing tech news first reported by The Register, Microsoft will no longer be fetching meta data for CDs when you pop them into Media Player. If, like me, you thought the track titles were encoded into the physical album, you'd be wrong! In fact, the metadata is fetched from a third party service, which Microsoft will no longer be providing. Another reason to join me on Ubuntu, where physical media are supported just fine.
