The National Ice Centre is hosting a day of Easter family fun, with on-ice and off-ice activities running throughout.

From 11:30am today, there will be free activities away from the ice to entertain the whole family - parents included. There will be arts and crafts, outdoor games on Bolero Square, and "high-energy sports". In previous years, this included table tennis, a shooting cage, and an inflatable ice hockey rink.

Also, in the past, the event has been somewhat of a community gathering. The Ice Centre has hinted at "special guests". In previous years, neighbourhood police teams were in attendance to bridge gaps between the police and community. At the time, Sergeant Paul Whitehead, of the Nottingham City Centre neighbourhood team, told the West Bridgford Wire:

"We want children and younger people to know that they can approach police officers for a reassuring chat, and we’re keen to talk about policing as a rewarding career opportunity."

This remains a key aim of police outreach activities. In recent months they have also begun a Warhammer painting club with the same hopes.

There will also be opportunities to get onto the ice too. Standard-priced tickets for the Public Skate are required for these events. There will be taster sessions from a number of groups on the ice, including Skate UK style lessons, synchronised ice skating, and a hockey session too. Ice sessions start at 1:30pm, and at the time of writing, have only sold 80 advance tickets. That’s a fairly low turnout by typical standards, so the ice should be less busy than usual.
