East Midlands Chamber is hosting a training session today to give practical advice to small businesses across Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire around their marketing efforts. The session is free - funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
UKSPF is a fund of government money set up to replace a similar fund that was provided by the EU. The £2.6 billion pot is being used for three priorities; communities and place, support for local businesses, and people and skills. Notts and Derbyshire will see £25.17 million of that, with today's event falling under both skilling-up residents and supporting small and medium businesses (SMEs).
It's part of the East Midlands Chamber's job to run many "Accelerator" workshops, funded from this budget. They represent over 4,100 member-businesses across the East Midlands and have given support to many more, which has given them insight into many stumbling points for SMEs. They're hoping to turn this experience into "action-focused" advice.
Business support is available from many areas in Nottingham. Central Library often runs events through its Business & IP Centre Nottinghamshire initiative. They specialise in helping protect intellectual property, but can give advice on many areas in business via group events or even one-on-one sessions. Nottingham City's D2N2 Growth Hub connects many partners who can offer advice and mentoring.
The event today will cover content, email, and "influencer marketing", which is a sign of the times. Small businesses based in the EMCCA are invited along for the day, from 9:30am until 4:00pm at Eastwood Hall.
