PhD virologist-turned-comedian Ria Lina returns to The Canalhouse tonight as part of the Nottingham Comedy Festival’s year-round programme. Her new show is Riabellion, a follow-up to her critically acclaimed Riawakening.
Whilst that first show covered topics of dating in a world changed by the pandemic, this time around she explores gender politics and taking control of her previously rule-riddled life. Past reviews call her show "razor sharp with savage satire". Her comedy style can be sampled on her Instagram.
If you didn't catch her the first time around, you may have seen Ria on Live at the Apollo, House of Games, or The Last Leg. Off the back of those TV appearances as well as a successful debut tour, it's no surprise that we'd see more.
The Canalhouse, on Canal Street, regularly has events organised by the Nottingham Comedy Festival, which runs towards the end of the year. They also put together other nights throughout the year often show casing multiple guests and as well as nights with a single headliner, like Ria's show tonight.
The show is for those 16 and older, doors opening at 7pm, and tickets cost just under £20. Last orders for food are at 8:45pm. Ria Lina has joked that even if tickets have sold out, she'll "squeeze you in".
