Commercial Pride Fest changes name after confusion with Pride charity event
RSPB host a talk from avian conservationist; Nottingham Pride publicly shames Live Republic into changing event name.
Weather today will be cool but largely unremarkable - wrap up warm enough and cycling will be quite comfortable. Consistently between 5 and 6 degrees throughout the day and night. No rain expected, and fairly low wind.
The first Monday of each month comes with a meeting of the Nottingham Local Group chapter of the RSPB. Tonight, at the International Community Centre on Mansfield Road they are hosting Simon Curtin to talk about Osprey conservation in the Vale of Belvoir. There will of course be tea and biscuits available. Doors open just before 7pm. Tickets for non-members are £5, payable on the door.
In Pride news, Nottingham Pride Fest which runs from Binks Yard has given notice that it will change the event name to make it clear it is not associated with the Nottingham Pride charity, and their two events coincide but are not related. The Pride organisers aired their annoyance at Binks Yard encroaching on the branding publicly with an open letter on Instagram. A number of people on social media have complained about feeling tricked by the similar names. Live Republic, who run the commercial event, said that this was the first they'd heard of the issue, despite trying to work with Notts Pride recently - where this could have been discussed. As Live Republic seem fairly amenable to the name change, and have continued to offer charitable support on each ticket sale, this seems a bit of a storm in a teacup.
