A gig at Liquid Light Brewery tonight will feature five bands to raise money for Nottingham Women's Centre.
The Taproom event will give the stage to Blind Eye, You Want Fox, Shoelace, Interkosmos, and Intercolour. These local bands can often be found gigging in venues around the city, but rarely share a bill like this. The bands all lean towards loud, rock and roll, and some fully in screamy punk territory. If that's your jam, the night is sure to be a delight.
If it's less your cup of tea, Liquid Light Brewery has a large outdoor area with seating to escape for a breath of fresh air. That's also where you'll find Da Vinci Dough pizza serving sourdough pizza throughout the night.
All ticket proceeds are being donated to the Nottingham Women's Centre, based on Chaucer Street, near NTU's city campus. International Women's Day was earlier in March, and in many places in the world this is Women's History Month. There have been a number of events around Nottingham observing it, raising awareness of the often overlooked contribution of women.
Nottingham Women's Centre supports women through many kinds of hardships, from financial to emotional, including help developing employment skills and independence. They also work to advocate for policy changes to counter disadvantages that women face more than men. One of their current initiatives aims to find a more just and compassionate methods of tackling school non-attendance, rather than fines and prosecution which they say add hardship to mothers who are already under other pressures.
Liquid Light Brewery is in Robin Hood Industrial Estate, near the Hackspace. The event starts at 6pm. Tickets are £5 online and £7 on the door.
