Central Library to host Poet Laureate alongside range of events
Nottingham Central Library is in Broadmarsh, where the recent green space is settling in well.

We are definitely on the trend to warmer weather now. 12 degrees again, but with lows of just eight. Rain is likely around 6pm, but not much. Gusts are quite dangerous this morning, but the wind will drop off almost entirely after lunch. Maybe cycle, but it's a bit of a risk in the morning.

If you are of an LGBTQ+ persuasion, you'll be interested to hear you're invited to a Zesty's Collective event at the Contemporary tonight at 6pm. Zesty's put on regular queer crafting events in a calm atmosphere with pens, paper, pipe cleaners, and glue galore. A proper cosy session. Groups are welcome, but the event is especially set up for those flying solo to find a safe space with friendly folk. Booking online is necessary to ensure a spot at the table.

In literature news, the library services around Nottingham are really kicking off the National Year of Reading with a special performance from Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage. That's happening on the 3rd March at Central Library, but on either side of that date libraries will be hosting reading and writing events for adults and kids. A focus of the event is getting more parents reading to their children, after a survey of 115,000 children found that only half to their parents do so. Studies by the National Literacy Trust show reading improves emotional stability, empathy, and problem solving in younger people.
