Beeston putting itself forward for £3million cultural grant
Decent weather to ride in; Jazz Steps starts a new week with a swinging bassist; Beeston is hoping to be called Town of Culture 2028.
If you're reading this at 8am, then the rain will stop shortly. Just give it a few more moments. After that, there will be no rain for the rest of the day. It will be 10 degrees by lunch time, but mostly 7 degrees otherwise. Low winds too. A good day to be a cyclist.
Jazz Steps are back with a new star this week: the Nicola Farnon Trio will be at Beeston Library tonight at 7:30pm. The trio have been called a "welcome return" to the programme, bringing fine singing and swinging bass. If not tonight, you can catch them tomorrow at Worksop Library, or on Wednesday at West Bridgeford Library. Tickets are £13, and will sell out, so take a look now.
In cultural news, Beeston has thrown its hat into the ring to complete for the title of Town of Culture. It's a new scheme which the winning town will get a £3,000,000 government grant to spend on their cultural programme. Yesterday, Beeston locals met at the Plessey Centre to discuss what will make up that programme. The bid has grown plenty of grass roots and seems to be picking up steam.
